At Halloween-time, people not only turn their attention to all things scary and weird, but many also like to decorate everything that doesn’t move. For some, that means smoke machines, life-sized headstones, piped-in scary music and mechanical figures that jump out when you walk by. For people like me who live much of their lives on the Web, though, Halloween decorations take other forms entirely. We decorate our online worlds with downloadable art, such as vintage halloween images. This electronic art lets us embellish word processing documents, Web sites, blogs, PowerPoint presentations and much more, which makes our time on the Internet more fun.
For scrapbookers, there are even more fun uses for images that can be found on the Web. There are some wonderful selections of Halloween bats scrapbook paper and Halloween clipart that can be so useful when it comes to storytelling through scrapbooks. Free images like this help people create who might not be able to afford it otherwise. Believe it or not, that actually helps all of us, because the more beauty and creativity there is in the world, the more we all benefit.
It’s pretty amazing to see the other types of projects people make with the free Halloween art they find online too. I recently ran across some great altered art projects. These particular projects were made of used vintage childrens books about Halloween that were ripped apart and reconstructed, with the addition of blank pages, new images, rhinestones and beads that gave them new lives as funky retro-inspired journals. I’ve also seen Halloween clip art used in jewelry. That’s such a creative use of free resources! Those free images are a big help for people who make handmade jewelry, because they usually don’t charge enough to make a decent profit. Free materials obviously allow them to optimize their resources.
If you search online for handmade Halloween crafts, you’re bound to see many more examples than these. The number is probably too large to count!
